Don & Cathy: Our Lives Since High School

The following information is from Cathy and Don on their lives since high school (somewhat edited and abridged for the sake of brevity and clarity).

“Cathy graduated in 1965 from the University of Guelph with a Home Economics degree while Donald graduated from Queen’s in 1963 with a B.A. in Chemistry and Physics and a law degree from U. of T. in 1966, He was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1968.

After university Cathy taught home economics for 17 years while Donald joined Lang Michener, later known as McMillan, in 1969 where he soon became a partner and worked there for 42 years before joining Bereskin & Parr in 2012 as a partner there.  Donald’s focus is (he is still working albeit half time) on intellectual property litigation and he recently authored a reference work for patent lawyers and agents in Canada which he updates on a regular basis.

Don and Cathy have four children Tricia (50), Gordon (49), Donald (45) and Robert (44) and 13 wonderful grandchildren ages 18 to 3. Three of their children are in and around Toronto but Donald lives in Portland, Oregon.

Don and Cathy have been very active for 51 years in their local Guildwood Presbyterian Church teaching in the Sunday School when the children were young, and taking on the chairmanship of almost every committee there over the years plus many other volunteer positions over the years.

Don and Cathy have always lived in Toronto (Guildwood Village) and spend their summers at their cottage on Temperance Lake north of Brockville usually with a full complement of children, grandchildren and friends visiting.

Cathy concluded her note with the words: ‘After 55 years of married life, that is a very quick summary of our many wonderful years together. We have been exceedingly fortunate!!’
